    Foreman

    Job responsibilities

    A Foreman is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the site personnel and subcontractors, the reporting of all relevant site activities and managing the quality and safety of work performed.

    Required qualification

    • Foremen must have a minimum 5 years utility construction experience specific to Civil Pipeline installation.
    • Foreman must be able to read and understand blueprints and perform and supervise all technical aspects of a job.
    • Must have a valid driver license.
    • Must have a First Aid Level 1 and any other tickets relative to the tasks they are supervising (i.e. Confined Space, Rigging, Excavation Safety, and Fall Protection).
    • Strong people/supervision skills, together with an ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels are important. Sound planning and organization skills are essential in this role.
    • A strong understanding and working knowledge of OH&S is required. The Site Forman will also be required to use their own initiative and apply a deductive approach when maintaining productivity and cost effectiveness.
    Pipe Layer

    Job responsibilities

    A Pipelayer is responsible for installation of all varieties of underground utilities including water, sewer, storm, hydro/tel, etc. Must be able to complete all tasks associated with the actual pipe installation as well (i.e. overbuild manholes, grouting, benching, drop structures, etc.)  Perform tasks involving physical labour and operate hand power tools of all types: jack hammers, compaction equipment, shovels, lutes, surveying and measuring equipment, pipe laser and a variety of other equipment and instruments.

    Required qualification

    • Must have a minimum 3 years construction experience in the utility installation industry.
    • Experience and understanding of the technical nature of each project type (water, sewer, storm, and hydro/tel).
    • Ability to install all types of utilities and maintain quality and safety standards.
    • Able to understand blue prints to determine location and formation of the pipe.
    • Ability to determine grades and proficiently use the associated measuring equipment. (i.e. pipe laser, builders level, theodolite, etc.)
    • Must have a valid BC driver’s license.
    • Ability to work without close supervision.
    • Ability to lead a small group in the absence of a supervisor.
    • Must be able to perform heavy manual labour under adverse weather conditions.
    • Extensive knowledge of construction materials, tools, and machinery used.
    • Must be capable of working in trenches, excavations, and manholes.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and lead team members.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and problem solve with site supervisors, team members, subcontractors, and the general public.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with construction personnel, equipment operators, supervisors, crew and sub- contractors.
    • Required to have valid First Aid Level 1 certification, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Rigging, and Excavation Safety.
    • Required PPE:  Steel toed boots, work clothes (long sleeve and full pants), hard hat, high visibility vest, safety glasses, hearing protection, half mask respirator and work gloves.
    Skilled Labourer

    Job responsibilities

    A Skilled Labourer is responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled construction activity, including assistance in pipe laying (water, sewer, storm, hydro/tel, etc.).  Perform tasks involving physical labor and operate hand and power tools of all types: jack hammers, compaction equipment, shovels, lutes, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.

    Required qualification

    • Must have a minimum 3 years construction experience in the utility installation industry.

    Job responsibilities

    An Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include Excavators, Rubber Tire Loaders, Backhoes, Front End Loaders, Dozers, Rollers, Compactors and other pieces of equipment.  The Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.

    Required qualification

    • Minimum 5 years work experience required, working near existing utilities.
    • Operator is required to be certified to operate each type of equipment (certification considered an asset).
    • Must have a valid BC driver’s license.
    • Must have a current First Aid Level 1 ticket and an Excavation Safety ticket.
    Labourer

    Job responsibilities

    A General Labourer is responsible for performing tasks involving physical labor.  May operate hand and power tools of all types (jack hammers, compaction equipment, shovels, lutes, measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments).  May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and other general laboring tasks.  May be required to assist other crew members and subcontractors.

    Required qualification

    • Labourer must have a minimum 1 year construction experience.
    • Basic experience and understanding of the technical nature of each type of project (Water, sewer, storm, and hydro/tel).
    • Must be able to perform heavy manual labour under adverse weather conditions.
    • Familiarity with the materials, tools and machinery used.
    • Must be capable to work in trenches, excavations and manholes.
    • Required PPE:  Steel toed boots, work clothes (long sleeve and full pants), hard hat, high visibility vest, safety glasses, hearing protection, half mask respirator and work gloves.
    Dump Truck Driver

    Job responsibilities

    A Dump Truck Driver (Driver A) is responsible for operating a heavy truck and pony. The Driver must also clean, inspect, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.

    Required qualification

    • Minimum 3 years experience driving truck and pony.
    • Must have a valid BC Class 1 license with a clean abstract.
    • Be capable of maneuvering vehicle in tight quarters with heavy traffic.
    • Must pass a company road test and pre trip inspection.
